Opportunistic Context-Aware Computing Speaker: Dr. Alexander Varshavsky AT&T Labs Research Biography: Alexander Varshavsky is a Senior Member of Technical Staff at AT&T Labs, NJ. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Toronto, and has an M.Sc. in Computer Science from Tel-Aviv University, Israel and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Technion, Israel. He is a winner of fellowships from Bell University Labs, NSERC, OGS and OGGST, and worked for IBM Haifa Research Lab, IBM T.J. Watson Research Lab and at Intel Research Seattle Lab prior to joining AT&T. Alexander is interested in developing new software infrastructure solutions for mobile and ubiquitous computing applications, with previous research in the areas of proximity-based authentication, location-aware systems and activity recognition.
