
CMS Deputy Director Tom Wakeman explains Stevens' long maritime history to members of the NYSMEA

| | On Saturday, February 23, 2008 members of the New York State Marine Education Association (NYSMEA) visited Stevens Institute of Technology to hear about the research activities at the university’s Center for Maritime Systems (CMS). The NYSMEA Board of Directors met in the morning on the Stevens campus and then the association’s members joined the Board for presentations about Stevens and CMS programs.This included the Center’s work in near coastal observation, naval architecture and maritime systems. This was followed by a walking tour of the campus and Davidson Laboratory. The visit to Stevens was hosted by Dr. Thomas Wakeman, Deputy Director of the Center for Maritime Systems. Also participating were Dr. Raju Datla, Dr. Thomas Herrington, Dr. Barry Bunin and Mr. Don Chesley.
NYSMEA exists to promote marine awareness and encourage the growth and exchange of instructional resources within the scientific, commercial, and educational communities. Members include educators from all levels; museum, aquarium, and environmental center staff, research scientists, laboratory technicians and those with interests in SCUBA, fishing, boating, maritime history, folklore, archeology and the arts.
