Chemistry & Chemical Biology

Our society has developed, in large part, due to our ability to control our environment, and the means by which we control that environment is through an understanding of the physical laws of nature. The fields of Chemistry and Chemical Biology encompass the knowledge necessary to understand characteristics of matter from the atoms to complex organisms. New knowledge in Chemistry & Chemical Biology is directly applicable to improving the human condition through biomedical engineering.

In a recent article that can be seen here, CNN highlights a study indicating that students graduating with Engineering Degrees, specifically in the technology field, enjoy some of the most lucrative careers in the nation. The faculty at Stevens Institute of Technology pride themselves on having prestigious Chemistry, Chemical Biology and Biomedical Engineering curriculums, as well as being on the forefront of technology and new trends in the marketplace.

Biomedical Engineering

Engineering makes use of well established scientific principles to produce highly predictable actions and reactions. Biological systems are among the most challenging systems to engineer because of the scientific principles governing biology are still emerging. The field of Biomedical Engineering applies chemical and biological principles to produce reliable tools for scientific and clinical applications. One of the most valuable by-products of these innovations is the identification of the limits of current scientific principles - critical areas for chemical and biological research.
