The
name of this organization shall be the Stevens Dramatic Society, herein
referred to as the Society.
The
purpose of this organization shall be to
a) promote interest in the Performing Arts and
b) produce plays in the Stevens Theater.
a) Any undergraduate or graduate student of Stevens Institute of Technology may
participate in the activities of the Society, and be eligible to become a
voting member.
a) Recognition of participation in any major production shall be given to any
individual who:
b) is a member of the cast or orchestra for that production or
c) actively participated, as determined by the overseer of the appropriate
activity, in at least one of the following: 1. one third of the construction
crew calls 2. one third of rehearsals 3. the majority of rehearsals two weeks
preceding opening night 4. technical preparation including committees (i.e.
publicity) during the month preceding
opening night.
d) Said individual must also participate in all productions of the show, unless
an excuse is presented to and accepted by the Production Manager if a member of
the crew or Stage Manager if a member of the cast.
The
membership shall consist of:
a) voting members which shall be defined as students who have participated in
at least one major production of the Society in the preceding three semesters
and who have not missed two consecutive general meetings without giving an
excuse, accepted by the Executive Board, prior to the meetings.
b) non-voting members which shall be defined as alumni of both Stevens
Institute of Technology and the Society, students with participation in the
Society during the last three semesters, all former voting members still
enrolled at Stevens, or honorary members as declared by the Executive Board of
the Society.
The
elected Officers of the Executive Board of the Society shall consist of the
following members, listed in order:
a) President
b) Vice-President
c) Business Manager
d) Publicity Manager
e) Two Members-at-Large
a) After being convicted of or confessing to any Honor Board violation or
violations, Officers of the Executive Board must disclose said violations to
the voting members at the next General Meeting.
a) General meetings shall be held at least once during each full month of the
semesters, Spring and Fall, of the academic year.
a) Each voting member shall be personally notified in writing at least
seventy-two hours before a scheduled meeting. Notification must be given one
week prior to a nomination or an election meeting. Notification regarding other
types of meetings shall be at the discretion of the President.
a) The President shall call a general meeting within one week after being
requested by five voting members of the Society.
a) The President shall call an Executive Board meeting within one week after
being requested by two members of the Executive Board.
a) A quorum shall be defined as one half of the voting members.
a) Procedures outlined in Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised, shall apply
to all Society meetings in all cases for which they are not inconsistent with
the Constitution of this organization.
a) The Bylaws of the Constitution of the Society shall be valid for all intents
and purposes as part of this Constitution, save that they shall require only a
majority vote to pass, suspend, or negate.
a) No Bylaw shall supersede, or be inconsistent with this Constitution.
a) Amendments to this Constitution shall be presented in writing by any voting
member to the Executive Board not less than one week before being presented at
a meeting.
a) Amendments shall become effective upon a two-thirds (2/3) affirmative vote
of the voting members
This
Constitution shall become effective upon the approval of:
a) two-thirds of the voting members of the Society
b) the Student Council of Stevens Institute of Technology
The
establishment of this, the Constitution of the Stevens Dramatic Society, shall
abolish all previously existing Constitutions for the governance of the
Society.
