Tom Herald, Stevens Alumnus appointed as a Lockheed Martin Fellow in Systems EngineeringDr. Thomas E. Herald was selected "Lockheed Martin Fellow" becoming one of only a couple hundred such Fellows within the aeronautics and defense company of 140,000 employees worldwide.
The Lockheed Martin Fellows program is a company-wide initiative organized to recognize, honor and reward superlative world-class engineers, scientists and technologist. Selection as a Lockheed Martin Fellow represents recognition of the highest levels of technical achievement and promise of continuing contributions to the company.
The criteria in which Dr. Herald was assessed and awarded the Fellows role included technical expertise, intellectual capital, technical and interpersonal leadership, team skills, and outside service to the technical community.
A 25 year employee of Lockheed Martin and its heritage companies, Dr. Herald is accountable to advance knowledge within systems engineering and sustainment engineering disciplines.
Dr. Herald received his Doctoral Degree in Systems Engineering in May 2007 from the School of Systems and Enterprises at Stevens Institute of Technology, and currently serves as an adjunct faculty member for the university. “We are proud to have Dr. Herald as an industry professor within our school. He is a strong contributor to our research agenda, while being a regular instructor in some of our core systems engineering courses. This recognition of Dr. Herald by Lockheed Martin is richly deserved”, said Dr. Dinesh Verma, Dean, School of Systems and Enterprises.
In 2007 Dr. Herald’s dissertation titled An Obsolescence Forecasting Methodology for Strategic Systems Sustainment Decision Making was chosen for publication by the School of Systems and Enterprises (SSE) Press, and will be available hardcopy in spring 2008. In 2003 Dr. Herald was recipient of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Foundation/ Stevens Institute Doctoral Research Award for his outstanding and promising research in the area of Systems Engineering and Supportability.
Dr. Herald received his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1986 from the University of Maryland and his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1982 from the University of Pittsburgh.
