Dr. Mitola Delivered Keynote at CrownCom 2010 On June 9th - 11th 2010, in Cannes, France, Dr. Joseph Mitola III, Vice President for the Research Enterprise at Stevens Institute of Technology, delivered a keynote address at the CrownCom 2010 International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks and Communication.
The aim of CrownCom is to bring together original, high-quality contributions that present new techniques, concepts and analysis in the area of cognitive radio algorithms and system design. Specific topics of the conference included: spectrum sensing and pooling, network design and optimization, software-defined and flexible radio architectures, channel modeling, collaborative communications, as well as beamforming and multicast methods.
As the world's leading authority on software-defined radio and inventor of cognitive radio systems, Dr. Mitola's keynote was entitled, "Cognitive Radio technology: First decade and the way ahead." He began by addressing the evolution of Cognitive Radio, from its technical foundation to system methodology and explanation of Dynamic Spectrum Access. Dr. Mitola then highlighted the potential methods for revenue generation, specifically citing things such as content tailoring, platform differentiation and the leveraging of network agility as key sources. Future developments foresee Cognitive Radio being used in popular technology devices such as Androids, iPhones and for the Military. There will be spectrum pooling, cost reduction and introduction of novel software tools for porting and adapting.
