Studying the Environmental Effects of Tungsten Professors Washington Braida, Christos Christodoulatos and their team at the Center for Environmental Systems at Stevens Institute of Technology are the focus of our latest research blog entitled, "Environmental Effects of Tungsten: Damage Mitigation and Green Alternatives."
This piece takes an in-depth look at the group's unprecedented analysis of Tungsten and its potential impact on the environment.
Several years ago, as part of the Department of Defense's (DoD) "Green Ammunition Program," the lead core in military bullets was replaced with tungsten composites. Tungsten had traditionally been thought of as environmentally benign and thus, a perfect solution to the harmful lead chemicals.
Growing concerns however have prompted the DoD and researchers alike to take an closer look at the impacts of Tungsten, and Stevens has become a leader in the field.
