Several years ago, as part of the Department of Defense's (DoD) "Green Ammunition Program," the lead core in military bullets was replaced with tungsten composites. Tungsten had traditionally been thought of as environmentally benign and thus, a perfect solution to the harmful lead chemicals.

Growing concerns however have prompted the DoD and researchers alike to take an closer look at the impacts of Tungsten, and Stevens has become a leader in the field.
