Dr. David Vaccari recognized as Educator of the Year by the ACEC-NJ Dr. Vaccari, an associate professor and director of the Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering Department at Stevens Institute of Technology was recently awarded the 2009 Educator of the Year Award from the New Jersey Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).
According to the ACEC, whose mission is to contribute to America’s prosperity and welfare by advancing the business interests of member firms, he was singled out because of his “positive impact upon the engineering profession.” The award will be presented during the New Jersey ACEC annual banquet on March 18, 2010.
Dr. Vaccari has taught Environmental Engineering for over 25 years. He is the author of the textbook entitled, “Environmental Biology for Engineers and Scientists” (Wiley, 2005), which is the only textbook designed to cover all the areas of biology that are relevant to the environmental field in a single text.
He continuously keeps abreast of the latest educational developments including technology and educational quality control. In the latter area, he has taken on national service roles including being chair of the Engineering Education Committee of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, and becoming a member of the board of directors of ABET, Inc., the organization responsible for accreditation of engineering programs.
Dr. Vaccari is also heavily involved in the development and academic opportunities created through new research ventures. He is currently involved with a project that studies the Passaic River in Paterson to determine the sources of bacterial pollution. This effort coordinates 8 to 10 undergraduate students to conduct sampling and assist in logistics and data analysis. For more information, please contact:
