Dr. Martini’s research analyzes Ultrafast switching devices based on semiconductor and semiconductor heterostructures; Ultrafast laser sources (100fs and below) and their application in spectroscopy, communication, material testing; Generation, detection, and application of time-resolved terahertz (100 GHz - 5000 GHz) radiation; Free Sapce Optical Communication using new wavelength (infrared) as well as ultrashort pulses; Infrared laser communication at ultrahigh speed, and Infrared camera systems using new alternate approaches.
He is the Director of the Ultrafast Laser Spectroscopy & Communication Laboratory, which investigates the high-speed response of new lasers and materials, as well as passive and active optical systems using ultrashort laser pulses. He uses the results of research conducted in his lab to look for new ways and possibilities to realize ultrahigh-speed communication networks in the visible and IR-spectrum with Terahertz bandwidth and above.
Dr. Martini’s work has the potential to improve telecom communications by orders of magnitude 100 to 1,000 times and is working to create the prospect for ultra broadband capacity combined with high quality.
He is a founding member of the International Scientific Committee of the International Conference of Plasma Spectroscopy (IPS), involved with professional societies such as the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG) (German Physical Society), American Physical Society (APS), Optical Society of America (OSA), IEEE including LEOS, Communication Society and Microwave Society and the SPIE - International Society for Optical Engineers. His innovative research has resulted national funding and awards such as the Harvey N. Davis Distinguished Teaching Assistant Professor Award of exceptional teaching ability.
