Prof. Patanakul is interested in strategic aspect of project management both at a project level and an organizational level. His research areas include studies on project strategy, project and program value, and project portfolio management. Currently, Prof. Patanakul pursues several studies to identify key determinants of effectiveness in the management of multiple projects (at project manager level) and in project portfolio management. The research results should help practitioners be more focused on how to cultivate and measure effectiveness of their project management system. Prof. Patanakul has also done researches in the areas of project manager assignment, competency of project manager, project team structure, project management tools and techniques, and project management standardization.
He has been engaged in several research projects such as building a strategic system approach to NASA’s project and program management (a grant from the Center for Program/Project Management Research, NASA, 2004-2005). His works have been published in IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of High Technology Management Research, International Journal of Project Management, and Engineering Management Journal.
Prof. Patanakul has served by invitation as a reviewer on various panels evaluating journal articles, conference papers, and book proposals. He is a reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, International Journal of Project Management, Journal of High Technology Management Research, R&D Management, Project Management Institute (PMI) Research Conference, International Association on Management of Technology (IAMOT) Conference, Portland International Conference on Management of Technology (PICMET), and International Network on Organizing by Projects (IRNOP).Prof. Patanakul’s works have been recognized internationally. He was the recipient of 2007 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT BEST PAPER AWARD from IEEE Engineering Management Society. He also received 2008 and 2009 BRIGHT IDEA AWARD IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT from the NJPRO Foundation, the public policy research affiliate of the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA) and the Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University. |
