Jun F. LiangBack

Dr. Liang’s research analyzes bioactive peptides, functional polymers, and their potential pharmaceutical and biomedical applications. His research projects within the Bioactive peptides discipline include peptide design with desired biological functions, novel peptide delivery methods using self-assembly technology, and development of peptides with anti-heparin, anti-cancer, or antibacterial activity. Within the functional polymers focus he studies the development of functional polymers grafted surfaces with good biocompatibility, and synthesize drug selectively bound polymers for drug formulation and delivery.

Dr. Liang’s research is highly regarded and he has received funding for several of his projects. Recent funding for his work includes the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which has awarded a research grant for the project, "Design of Peptides as New Anti-Cancer Drugs." Dr. Liang's lab is working on the development of peptide drugs which are active in both drug sensitive and drug resistant cancers. The success of this research may provide a new opportunity for cancer patients who have failed to respond to current chemotherapy.

Even more recently, he received additional NIH funding for “Biofilm growth on functionalized surfaces.”, and a multi-year grant from the NIH due to his proposed research in bacterial radiation resistance entitled, “Intracellular Radiation as a Novel Approach for Infection Treatment”.
