Gary LynnBack

With a focus on the intersection of technology, marketing, entrepreneurship and new product development, Dr. Lynn has maintained an industry leading position as one of the most sought after consultants in the Management and Technology field. He has started, built and sold three companies. He has worked as a technical design and marketing specialist at the General Electric Company, where he designed components of aircraft engines, and developed and implemented commercialization plans for high-technology products including robotics, numerical and programmable controls, artificial vision systems and CAD/CAM equipment. Dr. Lynn was also Director of New Product and Market Development for the Guardian Products Division of Sunrise Medical where he conducted trade negotiations with the Minister of Economics in Taiwan and the Minister of Trade in the Philippines.

In 2003 and 2008, The International Association for the Management of Technology (IAMOT) named him one of most prolific scholars in the field of Technology-Innovation Management. Dr. Lynn was one of seven people who won this recognition twice, consecutively over the past decade. In 2002, Business 2.0 Magazine selected him as one of the nine leading “management gurus.”

Dr. Lynn has authored and co-authored six published books, contributed to over thirty five journals, conference proceedings and reports. In 1999 he filed and received U.S. Patent #4,325,516 for “Web-Based Assessment and Mentoring System for on-line computer-based assessment and automated training of new product teams.” His professional awards and honors include; Outstanding Teacher Award in the School of Management at Stevens Institute of Technology (2004), Outstanding Research Professor in the School of Technology Management at Stevens (2003), Co-author of the book (Blockbusters, 2002/2003) that was selected in 2002 year as one of the key management publications in the world by Manageris Executive Book Summaries and one of the 30 best management books published in 2003 year by Soundview Executive Book Summaries, selected as one of nine leading management gurus in the country by Business 2.0 Magazine, received best journal article award for 2002 from the European Journal of Innovation Management for an article he co-authored entitled, “Team Improvisation and Speed-to-Market: An Extended Model.” He received the Alexander Crombie Humphreys Distinguished Teaching Associate Professor Award, Stevens Institute of Technology, (September 1999), commendation from the American Society for Engineering Management for exemplary service, and the Merritt A. Williamson Best Paper Award by the American Society for Engineering Management for “Critical Success Factors and Danger Signs for Technical Managers in New Product and Process Development -- A Benchcasing Study” (October 1996).
