Meeting Called to Order: 1:00 PM
Last Semester Recap
- The printers were a month late and there were defective magazines delivered.
Bi-Weekly Meetings
- We would like to have bi-weekly meetings this semester. Probably 1:00 PM on Wednesdays.
- Frank Riccobono: I heard that they have decreased the non-academic window. I'm not sure if that's true
but we might need to take that into account
- For now meetings will be at this time, but future meeting time and place will be up for discussion
Announcements
- We will be helping to run the Anime Convention on April 15th
- Artist's Alley lets artists sell their work
- Anyone who would like to be involved in some way should contact Regina
- There is lots of interest among our membership in Video Game development.
- We're looking to collaborate with C2GS and the Game Develpoment Club to hold seminars on game development
- We're still in the planning stage
- If you have any suggestions, please contact us
Goals for the Semester
- We want to continue to expand Red Shift's membership
- Sam Eichner: An Art-Tech professor gave an assignment to turn a poem into flash animation. He suggested that his
students look at Red Shift for inspiration
Unresolved Issues:
- We want to finally resolve the constitution problems
- We need people to come together to learn layout
- we will train you in the use of several Adobe CS2 products such as Photoshop and InDesign
- Anyone interested in participating in any of these endeavors should contact us
Distribution Plans:
- Abel Alvarez: Copies will be left in the MAC Lab and hopefully in the Library periodicals racks. We're talking
to the Stute to obtain permission to share their distribution racks.
- Kyle Yandell: We should talk to the people at Tunes
- Teal Krahn:We should talk to other merchants on Washington St. to leave magazines there
- Jessica Foldhazy: We should put copies in the Student Life Office, the Writing Resource Center in Morton, and the
Post Office Counter
- Kyle Yandell: Also we should leave copied in Jacobus during Coffee House
This meeting was more to make sure that all of our contributors receive copies. There will be an official kick-off
meeting on Wednesday, January 23, in Pierce 216 at 1:00 PM.
Comments and Questions:
Jessica Foldhazy: Why were my poems printed twice in both mixed media and print?
Answer: possibly due to lack of communication
Abel Alvarez: liked the idea of combining the visual and the written
Kyle Yandell: Is the magazine more poetry than pros for a reason?
Answer: Only because there were more poems submitted than short stories.
Kyle Yandell: Elliot had suggested holding show and tell sessions for the sake of inspiration.
What happened last time was lots of people sitting around with no one wanting to talk.
Regina Pynn: For those who don't know, Elliot held small creative workshops in his room several times last semester.
Jessica Foldhazy: What about collaborative projects. One piece passes from artist to another
Keith Roby: If somenoe gave me a poem, I'd definitely draw something.
Jessica Foldhazy: What is the size limitation for scanned artwork?
Abel Alvarez: There is no limit. Scan them at the highest resolution so we can resize it without quality loss.
Jessica Foldhazy: I have 35mm pics on a CD. Is it better to scan the prints or use the CD?
Sam Eichner: You should just scan the negatives
Try Mimosa Digital, a local business
Keith Roby: Do we have access to a very large scanner?
Abel Alwarez: Your best option is to get it scanned professionally.
Regina Pynn: We _might_ be able to reimburse you, but this is far from a guarantee.
Meeting Closed: 1:44 PM
