Meeting Called to Order: 9:07 PM
Recap of Last Semester
- Jim Weatherall was instrumental in gettin out the magazine
- However, confusion arose over who gets to sign the contract with the printer
- Jim felt that we had made a mistake in choosing the printer we chose
- The original proof had to be sent back and the order was cancelled while Jim
selected a new printer
Nantalee Kitpanichvises's poem was, after being seen in our publication, used in a publication
of the admissions department
Opportunities for visual artists are available
- There is a gallery in the Library
- The nurse is always looking for artwork
- There is a graduate students' lounge
We need to figure out a means of distribution. There are still 700 copies of the magazine in
boxes in Dr. Weatherall's office. We should remove them.
Open the floor to suggestions from the membership
Elliot Sadlon: leave the magazines in lounge areas and the mail room counter
Rachel Rolfe: We should hold contests for Red Shift
Matt Edwards: We could have a light saber designing contest
Elliot Sadlon: We should start pooling for new written content
Rachel Rolfe: What if we had themed submissions?
Elliot Sadlon: What if we had a theme for the magazine?
Kyle Yandell: Be careful about limiting ourselves.
Elliot Sadlon: We need to barrage the campus in Red Shift like we tried to do last semester.
Regina Pynn: Prof. Foster has offered to help train the editors.
Rachel Rolfe: We need to bring the Lit. Dept. in
Erin McDonnell: Have we tried to work with the Art/Tech Dept.?
Frank Riccobono: We do want to work with the students in the department, but we don't want to be under the control of the department. The department has attempted to gain greater influence with us in the past. However, if we had a student within the department that wanted to act as an intermediary between us and the faculty, we would welcome the support.
Chris Merck: What about a more personal approach to gathering submissions? For example, we should try to contact those students' whose art is hanging in Morton.
Poll: How do we feel about meetings?
Elliot Sadlon: Saturday at 9:00 PM in Tech 127...brainstorming session
Elliot Sadlon: What if we had a 'turn your hand writing into a font' contest
Matt Edwards: How about we make a scary story mini magazine for Halloween and call it Blood Shift
How do wee feel about the cover?
Elliot Sadlon:What if we used a more classical work for the cover?
Kyle Yandell: Before you concentrate on themes, focus on getting better writing
Meeting Closed: 10:10 PM
