Stevens has in place a comprehensive assessment process for both academics and institutional operations.
Academic Assessment:
All academic programs at Stevens Institute of Technology are undergoing multi-constituency review and assessment. Each program is required to have an Outcomes Based Assessment Process with documented results which includes:
- Detailed published educational objectives that are consistent with the mission of the Institute;
- A process based on the needs of the program's various constituencies in which the objectives are determined and periodically evaluated;
- A process that assures the achievement of these objectives; and
- A system of ongoing evaluation that demonstrates achievement of these objectives and uses the results to improve the effectiveness of the program
Institutional Assessment:
Institutional assessment is conducted across the Institute through self-study, various focus groups and oversight committees as well as through external reviews
Each Unit and Subunit at Stevens has its own set of Goals and Objectives that are linked to the Goals of the Institute. The Units and Subunits perform their own self assessment throughout the year, and the results of these self assessments are communicated to the leaders of the Institute.
Key results are reported to the Provost and captured and published in the Institute Pulse Report.
Other key elements of the system of Institutional Assessment are the Focus Groups and Task Forces, commissioned by the Provost. These currently include
FOCUS GROUPS
- Sponsored Research Life-Cycle Process Review
- Retention
- Global Education for Undergraduate Students
TASK FORCES
- Academic Entrepreneurship
- Educational Assessment
- Graduate Program Enterprise)
- Information Technology: Systems & Resources)
