"Systems Engineering" Ranks Number 1 in Top Jobs

Systems Engineers were the top-ranked job in a recent survey of 35,000 people requested to rank jobs in relation to their pay scale, job security, intellectual challenge, passion for work, and flexibility.    Demand is high for systems engineers, who are the big-picture thinkers on large, complex projects in a wide range of domains from infrastructure, to defense, to telecommunications, in both the public and the private sector.  The forecast for job growth for Systems Engineers is 45% over the next ten years.

Systems Engineers:

*Ensure that an envisioned system successfully addresses a real need for a client, in the market or for society at large.

*Identify the constituent elements of the system and the role that they play

*Specify these elements and their interactions to a level that allows for their successful development and/or procurement and successful integration into a system

*Structure the system in a way that is in concert with a support infrastructure provides the desired operational capabilities as well as ability to adapt to evolving needs and technologies over its expected life span

We are pleased that Money Magazine has chosen Chief Systems Engineer Anne O'Neil, of the New York City Transportation Authority (NYCTA) to profile.  Ms. O'Neil and the MTA NYCTA have worked closely with the School of Systems and Enterprises at Stevens Institute of Technology, to provide cooperative education and internship programs for its undergraduate and graduate systems engineering students.

Another way to enhance opportunities for advancement in the field is to obtain INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) status.  Stevens is offering an inaugural “bootcamp” to prepare for this exam on October 20, 2009 at the Babbio Center and online, in an all-day workshop.  To learn more and register for the event, click here.
