SSE welcomes Dr. Mark Ardis as Distinguished Service Professor in Software Engineering at StevensThe School of Systems and Enterprises announces the appointment of Dr. Mark Ardis to our growing Software Engineering program. Dr. Ardis received a BA in Mathematics from Cornell University and MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science from the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. He spent the first part of his computing career as a government contractor for NASA, the Department of Labor, the Department of Health Education and Welfare, and the Department of Defense. After completing his PhD, he taught software engineering courses at the University of Illinois, Wang Institute of Graduate Studies, and Carnegie Mellon University. As a member of the Educational Program at CMU's Software Engineering Institute he helped start several new Master of Software Engineering programs. Dr. Ardis was the first recipient of the Nancy Martin Award for excellence in teaching at Wang Institute in 1985. He received the first award for excellence in teaching from the CMU MSE program in 1991. In 1991 Dr. Ardis joined the Department of Software Production Research at Bell Laboratories, where he conducted research in formal methods and software product line engineering for systems with high reliability requirements. He returned to academia in 2000, helping to start a new Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering program at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. In 2006, Dr. Ardis joined Rochester Institute of Technology, where he was Graduate Program Coordinator for Software Engineering. He joins the Stevens Institute of Technology faculty to build on his research interests in software engineering education, formal methods for specification and design, software product line engineering and software quality assurance. Dr. Ardis is a member of ACM and the IEEE Computer Society. He is also co-chair of WWW@10: The Dream and the Reality, a member of the CCSE Foundations Knowledge area for CC2001, and a contributor to the new Graduate Software Engineering Reference Curriculum (GSwERC). “We are extremely fortunate and proud to welcome Dr. Ardis to the School of Systems and Enterprises and our Software Engineering Faculty. Many of us have known and worked with him for years, and it is a pleasure to have him join Stevens. He brings with him a combination of industrial and academic experience and expertise, including work at the SEI at Carnegie-Mellon and Bell Laboratories. Dr. Ardis has won multiple teaching awards, and his areas of interest in software engineering education, formal methods, and quality assurance will be an asset to the our on-going software engineering program.” Software Engineering Program Director Linda Laird For more information, please contact:
