Congratulations to the Class of 2010

"I would like to congratulate the Class of 2010 for their dedication and achievements within their academic studies, research and extracurricular activities. We look forward to witnessing their accomplishments as they begin their professional journey to shape the technological future of our Nation."

- George P. Korfiatis, Provost and University Vice President

Since being founded in 1870 as America's first college of Mechanical Engineering, Stevens Institute of Technology has been producing graduates of the utmost capabilities. In the past 140 years we have grown to offer a variety of academic disciplines as well as an incredible array of entrepreneurial, research oriented and business development tools for our students.

This year, Stevens looks to the graduating class of 2010 with a sense of excitement. We look forward to their future accomplishments and are confident that their disciplined preparations as both Undergraduates and Graduates at Stevens make them highly sought after individuals, poised to serve as leaders in the next-generation of innovation.

Leading up to Commencement

Undergraduate Senior Week kicks off the week-long graduation celebration at Stevens, as the Student Government Association funded events give students an opportunity to network, relax and connect with alumni, in a relaxed and fun environment, ultimately concluding with the Senior Dinner, hosted by the Presidents' Office.

Continuing a highly anticipated annual tradition, our Provost Banquet on Friday, May 21st honored graduate students and bestowed thirty-five awards for academic achievement, dissertations, research, teaching assistants and more.

On May 26th, Stevens celebrated doctoral degree candidates during the Ph.D Hooding Ceremony. This traditional event consists of each candidate's faculty advisor and the Dean of Graduate Academics Dr. Charles Suffel placing the doctoral hood on the graduate, signifying his or her success in completing the program.

Commencement 2010

After the student events, banquets and special ceremonies have ended, students partake in the classic tradition of receiving their diplomas and witnessing special presentations by distinguished guests entrepreneur David S. Rose and Jeffrey J. Wilcox of Lockheed Martin as well as Stevens Present, Dr. Harold J. Raveche, Provost and Vice President Dr. George P. Korfiatis, Chairmen, Board of Trustees, Lawrence T. Babbio, Jr., and many more.

The proceedings at Commencement 2010 serve as an authoritative example of the possibilities when Engineering, Science, Management, Systems and Artistic academic programs are combined with a spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation.

These traits are exemplified by this years' Valedictorian speaker Andrew C. Kruegel, who not only maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average but also was the recipient of the Novartis Science Scholarship, Edwin A. Stevens Scholarship, the Scholars of Excellence Scholarship, the Bloustein Distinguished Scholar and featured on the Dean's list. Andrew has even received the Bausch and Lomb Science Award and received an honorable mention from the NSF Graduate Research Program.

As Stevens commends these Undergraduate, Graduate and Ph.D candidates on successfully completing their academic endeavors, we can't help the undeniable confidence and excitement we feel in closely watching their academic and professional careers as they continue the great traditions of innovation spawned here in Hoboken, N.J over 140 years ago.
