| Class of 2012Major: Physics Extra Curricular Activities: Society of Physics Students, Off Center Acting Troupe, Student Government Association Advice You’d Like to Share with the Class of 2013: “When I got to college I freaked out. Everyone seemed to be making friends right away and it was like they all knew each other forever. I felt like the next four years were going to be the longest four years of my life, but, when everyone else moved in after Pre-O I realized that the fifty people living on my floor were all just like me. They didn’t know anyone, this was new to all of them, and after that the year flew by faster than I could have imagined. Just relax and don’t think you’re all alone, there are hundreds of people in the same boat as you and they’re all thinking the same thing. Just say hello and you’ll be surprised how far it takes you.” My Best Study Tip: “This isn’t high school. You’ll see that your professor is going to give you a syllabus the first day and you’re on your own with due dates. A few classes don’t even have homework, so it’s up to you to stay on top of things. And I know how much it hurts you to hear this, if you study a little but every week – go over what you learned – you’ll be miles ahead of everyone else. Trying to relearn a month and a half of lectures in a few days before a test is near impossible. Trust me.” My Time Management Strategy: “I don’t have a general strategy, I basically take each class individually and see what I need for it. There’s no set plan you can use for every class. I always did well in Math, so I put less time into studying for that, and just ran through some practice problems. For classes like Chemistry and Biology, I had a little trouble with so I would take five or six days before to start rereading the chapters and I would run through old tests that the teachers had available to us. The time you need in one class might not be the time someone else does, so just see how you’re doing and go by that. Don’t copy someone else. Everyone is different.” Resources at Stevens I’ve Used: Without a doubt, the best resources at Stevens are the reviews run by both the ASC and even some of the fraternities. TX does some pretty good stuff for freshmen, and the Physics reviews run by the ASC are immeasurably useful. What Do I Like Best About Stevens: “I came to Stevens over my other choices because of the size of the school. I could actually walk through the whole campus without having to get on a bus, or spend three hours walking. I know can say that I know most of the people in my year as well as other years, something that would be incredibly hard to do in a school with 2,000 freshmen. I came for the co-op program as well, but decided against actually joining it so that I could do research on campus instead. But both are great reasons to decide to come here.” |
