| Class of 2012Major: Naval Engineering Minor: Green EngineeringMasters: Engineering Management Extra Curricular Activities: Varsity Swimming, working with the Student Government Association Advice You’d Like to Share with the Class of 2013: “Get 6-8 hours of sleep every night. Have breakfast. The standard stuff: it will help you remember the material for when finals and midterms roll around. And last: be involved with a sport or a club (or both, if your sport gives you time to!). It gives a much needed structure to otherwise (what can be) lazy days.” My Best Study Tip: “Do your homework when it is assigned, so you can get help with it in the event you don’t understand a problem. In the case of physics, it is ideal to have the Mastering Physics done a week ahead of their due date. In all cases, if you don’t understand a problem, use the upperclassmen (i.e., your mentor!). We’ve all had the beginning level classes before! They will have old homework that you can use to work out your own problems, and old tests which you can use to study for your own tests!” My Time Management Strategy: “Get stuff done. I personally used the weekend as the time when I would do my homework, but that’s a bad time for a lot of students, because the parties only happen on the weekend. If nothing else, use the time in the day (the time after lunch but before your next class) to get stuff done; every minute you use during the day can be put to having fun in the evenings or on the weekends!” Resources at Stevens I’ve Used: My classmates and my teachers. When they are at school, your teachers are there to help you. Schedule appointments when you have questions on the material, or would like some help with the homework. As for your classmates, get a group together during the year to do the homework. It’s much easier to figure out problems when you can get immediate help. What Do I Like Best About Stevens: “My classmates here have treated me like I am a person worth knowing. It is so extraordinarily uplifting to be going to a school where you have people who will understand your language (whatever language that might be, whether English, sports, or geek-speak).” |
