Exam Archives

Using the ASC Exam Archives On-Campus

To assist students preparing to take examinations, the Academic Support Center (ASC) maintains archives of exams and solutions from previous semesters. To view the online exam archives when your computer is on the campus network, follow these steps. The instructions below are for Windows XP.

  1. Select “Map Network Drive” using Windows Explorer, Tools menu.
  2. You may select any available “Drive: ” letter. “X” is shown below. The “Folder” name is \\storage01\public.
  3. Next, click on “Connect using a different username”.
  4. Enter “Campus\username” where “username” is your Campus domain username. Here is an example for user William Shakespeare (username “wshakesp”):
  5. Enter your Campus domain password. (Your default student domain password is Stevensnnnnnn where “nnnnnn” stands for your Web for Student PIN, if you entered Stevens in the Fall of 2003. If you entered in a different semester, “nnnnnn” stands for your birthdate in “yymmdd” format. If you have changed or forgotten your Campus domain password, contact the Help Desk at 201 216-5500 or www.stevens.edu/helpdesk.)
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Finish. You should now see a new drive in Windows Explorer called ‘public on storage01’, as shown in the screenshot below mapped in this example as drive “Z:”.

To find archived exams, click on “ftp”, then click on “asc”. Look for the folder for the department offering the course you are taking, e.g. “Chemistry”. Click on subfolders until you find the exams you need.

Using the ASC Exam Archives Off-Campus

Your computer must appear to be on campus so you can log into the server where the archives are stored. Do this by making a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to Stevens. VPN will make it appear that your computer is on campus. VPN connections work best over cable modem or DSL. (NOTE: VPN is not recommended if you connect to your Internet Service Provider using dial-up.)

Instructions on setting up a VPN connection: http://www.stevens.edu/it/documentation/files/vpn_config_xp.pdf

After connecting to Stevens network with VPN, follow the same drive mapping instructions given in the previous section.
