In today's global market, international experience can help the individual develop cultural awareness and broaden perspective. It is also a great way to see the world. Stevens Institute of Technology offers several options when it comes to study abroad.
Stevens students who have participated in study-abroad programs found that the year or semester abroad enhanced their opportunities for employment and/or professional studies. They also found ample time for sight-seeing and other enriching cultural experiences.

"Studying abroad is absolutely the most amazing experience in my college career. I have always loved traveling and studying at Queen Mary, University of London gave me easy access to many traveling opportunities. Being in London is complelety different then studying in the US. While people from different states come to study at Stevens, my classmates from London were from all over the world. There were only 2 local UK residents on my floor of 9 flatmates."
"Meeting different people and experiencing different cultures are the best parts of studying abroad. I traveled through England, Scotland, France, Monaco, Vatican City, Italy, Germany Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belguim, Holland and Austria. While I was traveling, I made friends from all over the world and if I ever need a couch to crash on I will have it. I also had the chance to visit Egypt through London's International Student House. Being inside the pyramid is a moment I will remember forever! It is definately a place everyone must visit in their lifetime."
"I would make study abroad required curriculum at Stevens. If you don't do it now, you will regret it years from now. So pack your stuff, hop on a plane and start traveling...well, I mean studying." Sarah Quinn Class of 2008 Business & Technology
"I studied for a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain at Saint Louis University. This was a once in a life time opportunity and I would highly recommend to other students. I wanted a challenge, so I decided to study in a country where I was unfamiliar with the language. I found that not speaking Spanish actually worked in my favor; everyday I was learning new and exciting things about the history and culture of Spain. The opportunities to travel are endless. Whether it’s by plane, train or bus, another country is just a few short hours away. One of the most valuable take-aways from my semester abroad is a better understating of how America influences Europe and how Americans are viewed in the eyes of Europeans. If I could do it all over again, I would in a heart beat." Natalia Chabebe Class of 2008 Mechanical Engineering
"My study abroad experience is something I would not trade for anything else in the world. I was fortunate to have several friends that studied abroad whose stories pushed me to making my dream into a reality. I spent a semester studying at Saint Louis University in Spain and traveling Europe. Every new trip I would just think to myself sitting in the airport, “I am really doing this.” It was so surreal every single time even though traveling was the “thing” to do on the weekend. I had a chance to visit Portugal, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, France, the Balearic and Canary Islands, England, Chile, Bolivia, Brazil as well as multiple cities in Spain. I made friends every where I went and learned so much from the cultures. One great connection was friends I made in Berlin who were from England. When I went to England for Easter weekend, I had a place to stay and friends to show me around! Traveling and living abroad is an experience all college students should have. It opens your eyes to different cultures and ways of life as well as making you more independent. Before I left for Madrid I was nervous as to how I would face the new obstacles to come, but everything has a way of falling into place. After studying abroad, I see the world differently; I am much more independent, confident and willing to pursue a new adventure." |

"The study abroad experience was life changing. There will be few moments in your life where you step off a plane in a foreign country, take in your surroundings and remind yourself that this will be your home for a while. The way you look at the world changes after you step out into it. Studying at University of Sydney was an experience I continue to cherish today. The diversity and culture really stood out from day one and it has helped me become who I am today. You will want to keep in touch and visit all the friends you make overseas. And companies really like to hear about the program because they also know it makes you an independent and well-rounded person. Some highlights from my trip to Australia were getting to visit Tokyo in Japan, Malaysia's capital city Kuala Lumpur, and the exotic Fiji Islands. The people and students are very friendly and helpful. On the second day after arriving in Sydney completely alone and without any bearing on where to go or what to do, I made friends from Germany, Japan, Russia, Holland, and Papua New Guinea and we all went to the beach." |
