Next
meeting in Fall 2004
Thank
you everyone who helped make Day of Silence a success. Last
year's events and meetings proved to have an exciting impact
on the campus. This coming fall will prove to be even more
pivotal in Pride@Stevens' success. We have a constitution
to complete in order to obtain full RSO status, as well as
many more events to plan and officers to elect. Right now,
the best thing you can do if you are interested is to join
the mailing list, as a newsletter will be sent out in the
next few days/weeks. If you want to become more involved,
or have any suggestions, please feel free to contact me <djabbour

| Day
of Silence & second meeting take place this Wednesday |
April
18, 2004 |
First
event of the club is planned, a 9-hour silence pledge
On this
Wednesday, participants are invited to take a 9-hour pledge
of silence. Why? The reason is simple: to make it clear that
we support students and faculty of all sexual orientations.
Why silence? Gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people,
and their straight allies, are often silenced by the intolerant.
Participants in Day of Silence are deliberately silent,
echoing the silence caused by harassment, prejudice, and discrimination.
Ending the silence is the first step toward fighting these
injustices. Think about all those who will be silent on Wednesday-
What
are you going to do to end the silence?
We
will also be meeting at 2pm in the Jacobus Conference Room
(second floor), to discuss future club plans. This will also
provide us from a break from the silence.
See
the EVENTS section above
for more information on the DAY OF SILENCE. |
| Pride@Stevens
is formed |
April
17, 2004 |
First
meeting proved a success, future meetings planned
After
many weeks of talks with Student Life, Pride@Stevens has finally
been formed. The organization’s goal is to give Gay,
Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (GLBTQ) students
a unified voice through which they can exercise their concerns.
The group will also support the GLBTQ community, creating
a “safe space,” and offer social functions for
GLBTQ and straight students, faculty, and administration alike.
Together we can help to educate the Stevens campus, and promote
awareness.
This
coming Wednesday is the Day of Silence.
On April 21, students around the country will be participating
in this national event to raise awareness and promote tolerance
of GLTBQ issues. Students are invited to take a pledge of
silence and hand out “speaking cards,” which will
be available Tuesday. Check back for more details,
or look for posters around campus.
