Hess Corporation donates funds
to Stevens’ Computer Science Department

HOBOKEN , N.J. — On December 20, the Computer Science Department at Stevens Institute of Technology received a donation from Hess Corporation, the well-known Fortune 100 company.

Peter Walton, Chief Information Officer at Hess Corporation, and Angela Shuster, Human Resources Manager, personally delivered a check to Dr. Dominic Duggan, chair of the department, along with Professors Lawrence Bernstein and Ruth Schwartz.

The representatives from Hess Corporation cited, as a particular strength of Stevens’ computer science students, their unique combination of problem-solving skills and business skills.

“These skills are the result of a rigorous development of problem-solving skills in the computer science curriculum,” said Duggan, “as well as the development of business skills in project-oriented courses.”
Some of these project-oriented courses allow outside organizations and companies to be clients for student projects, a novel aspect of the computer science curriculum.

Companies interested in partnering with Stevens’ Computer Science Department should contact Professor Duggan at cs-chair@cs.stevens.edu, to discuss potential for involvement in such projects.
