HOBOKEN , N.J. — Stevens Institute of Technology announced today a five-year contract with PNC Bank to be the preferred banking provider of the institution’s 5,000 students, faculty and staff. This partnership offers students access to a variety of PNC resources, including free checking and savings accounts, free Auto Alerts and one free wire transfer a month.
As part of the agreement, university customers will have the option of transforming their Stevens campus identification card into an ATM card by linking it to their PNC Bank checking, saving or money market account. Once linked, cardholders can use the same card for banking that they already use for campus-related purposes such as entering residence halls and checking out library materials. Card linking will be available before the start of the fall 2007 semester.
Also next fall, PNC plans to issue a co-branded Stevens Institute of Technology PNC Bank Visa Check card, similar to the check cards issued by other University Banking alliance schools, including Seton Hall University in New Jersey . The co-branded card works the same as the PNC Bank Check Card. It links to a PNC Bank checking account and can be used at ATMs and to make purchases anywhere Visa is accepted.
“We believe this relationship with PNC will be a great benefit to our students, faculty and staff,” said Michael D’Onofrio, controller and assistant treasurer at Stevens. “With this new relationship, PNC will be able to tailor their services to help make banking easy for students who are new to banking, and we are excited that PNC will bring its educational component to our campus to help students be smarter consumers.”
In addition to student and workplace banking accounts geared toward the institution’s population, PNC will offer free educational seminars on basic banking, credit management and fraud prevention on the Stevens campus. PNC will also host customized web pages where Stevens students and faculty can complete account applications, manage their finances and find information.
PNC has relationships with more than 100 schools across an eight-state region, including 12 alliance schools, like Stevens Institute of Technology, that have extensive relationships with PNC.
“Stevens is a leading technological university that attracts students and educators from all parts of the world,” said Bryan Timon, vice president of PNC Bank. “Our alliance means the university community has easier, more convenient access to PNC services and expertise.”
