Muslim Students Association hosts ‘Ramadan Fast-a-thon’

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Hoboken homeless shelter

HOBOKEN , N.J. — The Muslim Students Association (MSA) at Stevens Institute of Technology will host a Ramadan Fast-a-thon to benefit The Hoboken Shelter, a non-profit homeless shelter for men and women. Stevens’ MSA has joined with hundreds of other Muslim student associations across the country in a national campaign to address the issue of hunger in the US . As part of the campaign, students are encouraged to fast for a day and for each student who fasts, a participating business will donate money to a local non-profit homeless shelter. The event will take place Oct. 20 in the Bissinger Room, located in the Howe Center , at 6:00 p.m.

The Ramadan Fast-a-thon is a national movement in which students from the MSA encourage non-Muslim students to fast for one day during the month of Ramadan. At the end of the fast, participating students are invited to break the fast with a meal provided by the MSA. Following the meal, there will be a short presentation on the significance of Ramadan for Muslims and the issue of hunger in Hoboken , N.J.

Interested students may participate by stopping at MSA’s table, which will be located in the lobby of the Howe Center , during lunch and dinner hours.
