Stevens awarded US Commerce Department’s Export Achievement Certificate

Certificate recognizes enterprises that have successfully entered the international marketplace

HOBOKEN , N.J. — Stevens Institute of Technology will be presented with the Export Achievement Certificate during an October 4 workshop, “Tomorrow’s Information Technology Leaders.” The certificate is in recognition of Stevens’ USAID Grant used for scholarships to help Bulgarian IT professionals pursuing the Stevens IS Masters Degree in Sofia , Bulgaria . The award, from the US Department of Commerce, was created to recognize small- and medium-sized enterprises that have successfully entered the international marketplace for the first time or that have successfully entered a new market. Nominations from local businesses, elected officials and community leaders are accepted throughout the year. Jerry Luftman, Distinguished Professor and Associate Dean of Management in the Wesley J. Howe School of Technology Management, will accept the certificate on behalf of Stevens.

The workshop will focus on how educators can help students recognize the value of a career in Information Technology, and how to provide today’s students with the skills and education they must have to address the demands of rapid advances in technological innovation. Educators from the New Jersey / New York area are invited to participate in the workshop, Oct. 4, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. , in Stevens’ Babbio Center . The program is sponsored by IBM and SIM (The Society for Information Management).

In addition, Pedro Ardila, a junior, will receive a $2,500 SIM Scholarship during the event’s lunch.
