Stevens dean to chair two sessions at Sloan-C conference

HOBOKEN , N.J. — Robert Ubell , Dean of Professional Education at Stevens Institute of Technology, will chair two corporate learning sessions at the 11th Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C) Conference to be held in Orlando this month. On Nov. 17, Ubell will chair a pre-conference workshop on “Corporate-University Partnerships” in online learning. The following day, he will moderate the invited session, “Online Corporate Learning: Who Does It? How Is It Done? What’s Its Future?” Sloan Foundation Program Director Frank Mayadas is co-chair of the workshop and will also chair the invited session.

The workshop will introduce the principles and innovative practices for creating partnerships between universities and businesses. Workshop leaders are from several Fortune 500 companies who will suggest ways to achieve quality relationships with corporate partners. Several schools, including Pace University and Stevens, will present case studies on how they work successfully with industry. Workshop corporate participants are from Boeing, Filtertek, Johnson & Johnson and Liberty Mutual.

The invited session on online corporate learning marks the first time that the Sloan-C Conference will present a panel of corporate online learning experts to explore the present state and future prospects for e-learning services and tools in industry. Two notable corporate learning officers – Nancy Lewis, head of On Demand Learning at IBM, and Kee Meng Yeo, who manages Johnson & Johnson's eUniversity – will respond to questions from the audience. Jim L’Allier, Chief Learning Officer of NetG, will also be on hand to report on the corporate e-learning vendor community.

In a related event, WebCampus.Stevens Director Robert Zotti will deliver a talk on Nov. 18 titled, “Going Live: Integrating Web Conferencing Capabilities with Asynchronous Classes.” Zotti will cover how Stevens introduced web-conferencing technology to augment its online learning infrastructure, including vendor selection, faculty training and integrated synchronous approach to an established asynchronous model. His presentation will cover the initial implementation and the response of students, faculty and staff.

In a session on “Expanding Online Learning in China ,” on Nov. 19, Ubell will also report on the latest news about Stevens graduate programs in China .

Attendees from more than 350 institutions, from 50 states and 13 countries will be represented. The Sloan conference annually provides the latest information on asynchronous learning programs, processes, packages and protocols. It is geared toward experienced professionals and interested newcomers to online learning from higher education, continuing education, business, government, health care, professional associations and nonprofit organizations.
