HOBOKEN, N.J. — The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and USA Volleyball (USAV), in conjunction with Molten U.S.A., Inc., are pleased to announce that Stevens Institute of Technology has been selected as the host for the 2006 Molten Division III Men’s Invitational Volleyball Championship, April 7-8. The event will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2006.
The tournament will be held in Stevens’ Canavan Arena in Schaefer Athletic Center . As the event host, Stevens receives an automatic berth to the four-team championship. The tournament field will also include a representative from the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) and the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA). The fourth team will be an at-large selection from either the Midwest or West regions.
“Once again, Stevens is honored to be selected to host Division III’s most prestigious event,” Stevens Head Men’s Volleyball Coach Patrick Dorywalski said. “I am always very proud of the support and commitment Athletics receives here at Stevens from the administration. The additional support of the AVCA, USA Volleyball and Molten has really brought men’s volleyball forward in every possible way. We are enthusiastically looking forward to, once again, working with such respected organizations to produce a quality event.”
Now in its 10th year, the Molten Division III Men’s Invitational Volleyball Championship has grown in scope and stature during its first nine seasons.
The championship was formed due to a need for a culminating event for Division III men’s volleyball. While the NCAA sponsors a national championship for men’s volleyball, programs from all three divisions compete for just four berths in the yearly tournament. In the 35-year history of the men’s tournament, no Division III program has been selected to participate in the NCAA National Collegiate Men’s Volleyball Championship.
The Molten Division III Men’s Invitational Volleyball Championship committee consists of Katherine McConnell (AVCA executive director), Doug Beal (USA Volleyball chief executive officer), Gary Moy (USA Volleyball), Ivan Marquez (EIVA Commissioner and Concordia-N.Y. athletic director/EIVA representative), Bob Newcomb (UC Irvine/at-large representative); Al Scates (UCLA head men’s coach/AVCA board of directors men’s representative), Gerry Matacotta (NECVA executive director) and Mike Ricciardi (NECVA commissioner).
Molten U.S.A. , Inc. is the official volleyball of the Molten Division III Men’s Invitational Volleyball Championship, as well as the official ball of the AVCA. Sports Imports is the official net system supplier of the Molten Division III Men’s Invitational Volleyball Championship.
