Marks earns First Team All-America honors in Men's Soccer

First Stevens student-athlete to earn First Team All-America honors

HOBOKEN, N.J. — Stevens Institute of Technology junior men’s soccer player Brian Marks of Yardley, Pa., was named a first team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as announced on Friday.

Marks is the first Stevens student-athlete in any sport to earn first team All-America honors. He was a third-team selection last season. Giuseppe Incitti (men’s soccer, 2002) and Matt Grande (men’s lacrosse, 2004) were second-team selections.

“This is a tremendous honor for Brian and our men’s soccer program,” said head coach Tim O’Donohue. “Brian battled injuries for much of the season, but he came on strong late in the season and scored big goals in some big games.

“His selection as a first team All-American is as much a reflection on the team as it is an individual award,” added O’Donohue. “Brian has helped to establish Stevens as a top-25 program, but he couldn’t have done it without the support of his teammates.”

The two-time Skyline Conference Player of the Year, Marks helped Stevens to a 21-2-1 overall record a second straight Skyline championship and second consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament berth. Stevens advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row before falling to Richard Stockton 2-1 in overtime. The Ducks were ranked seventh in the nation in the final NSCAA Division III poll.

Marks finished second in the Skyline Conference in total goals (13) and total points (33) behind only teammate Josh Ottinger. He missed four games early in the season with an injury, but finished strong with 10 goals in his final 10 games heading into the NCAA Tournament. He had three goals and two assists in the Skyline Conference Tournament including two goals and one assist in the Ducks’ 4-0 win over Kings Point in the championship game.

In three seasons at Stevens, Marks has 39 goals and 24 assists for 102 points. With his second goal in the Skyline championship game against Kings Point on Nov. 6, Marks became just the second player in the 76-year history of the men’s soccer program to reach the 100-point plateau.
