Stevens senior Josh Ottinger is academic All-American

Only player from a N.J. school and only Skyline Conference player to earn Academic All-America honors

HOBOKEN, N.J. — Stevens Institute of Technology senior and Men’s Soccer forward Josh Ottinger of Parkland, Penn., has been named to the ESPN CoSIDA Academic All-America men’s soccer all-star teams.

Ottinger, an Academic All-America third-team selection last fall as a junior, was selected to the college division third team again this season. A mechanical engineering major with a 3.427 GPA, Ottinger was the only player from a New Jersey school and the only Skyline Conference player to earn Academic All-America honors. He is one of only two student-athletes at Stevens to earn Academic All-America honors twice.

Ottinger, who recently completed his Stevens career, departs as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 174 points from 68 goals and 38 assists. He is one of only two players in the history of the program to record 100 career points. Ottinger helped Stevens to a record of 69-16-6 (.791), three Skyline Conference championships, three NCAA Tournament berths and one ECAC Metro championship over the past four years. The Ducks had never qualified for the NCAA Tournament prior to Ottinger’s freshman season – a span of 72 years.

Stevens went 21-2-1 and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship this past season. The Ducks were eliminated in the Sweet 16 with a 2-1 overtime loss to Richard Stockton. Ottinger led both Stevens and the Skyline Conference in scoring with 44 points on 18 goals and eight assists. He was an All-Skyline first-team selection for the fourth straight season. He is also a three-time All-Metro Region selection.
