Stevens Alliance for Technology Management presents third in its Seminar Series in Technology Management

Sponsored in collaboration with the Columbia University School of Engineering

HOBOKEN, N.J. — The Stevens Alliance for Technology Management (SATM) has announced the third in its Seminar Series in Technology Management, sponsored in collaboration with the Columbia University School of Engineering. The seminar will be presented by Dr. Jerry Luftman on the topic “Assessing and Improving the Alignment of Information Technology with the Enterprise,” and will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. on the Columbia campus.

“Business-Information Technology (IT) alignment refers to the application of IT in an appropriate and timely way, in harmony with business strategies and goals,” said Alliance Director Larry Gastwirt. “The importance of effective alignment between the IT function and the business is well accepted. Less well understood is how to assess the degree or maturity of alignment, and how to improve it. Firms often find it difficult to harness the power of IT for their long term benefits, even though there is much evidence that IT has the power to transform whole industries and markets.”

This seminar follows up on the SATM Roundtable meeting that Dr. Luftman facilitated on September 21. He will describe his framework for evaluating business-IT alignment, and will present the results of some of his research on enablers and inhibitors for achieving mature alignment and leveraging the impact of IT on the firm.

Dr. Luftman is Executive Director of Graduate Information Systems Programs and Distinguished Professor of Information Systems at the Howe School of Technology Management, Stevens Institute of Technology.

A light buffet will be served. Advance registration is required; the $50 registration fee is waived for Alliance sponsors. You can register by contacting Sharen Glennon at 201-216-5381 or sglennon@stevens.edu. Seating is limited, so early registration is suggested.
