HOBOKEN, N.J. - Two senior computer industry executives - from Microsoft and Hewlet-Packard - were appointed recently to the board of Stevens Institute of Technology's WebCampus, which is the university's online learning unit.
Sherri Bealkowski, general manager of Microsoft's Education Solutions Group, and Michael Humke, H-P's director of higher education, join other high-ranking corporate members - Ronald Schlosser, CEO of Thomson Learning, a global information company and publisher of Petersons Guides; and Martin Tuchman, chairman and CEO of Interpool, Inc., one of the world's largest ship container leasing firms.
"They're very knowledgeable," said Graduate Dean Charles Suffel, who chairs the WebCampus board. "They represent nearly every key aspect of online learning. They're serious and very supportive."
In addition to several prominent Stevens faculty, board members are also from other leading academic institutions, including Cornell and MIT. In addition, member Robert Regan is president of New England College of Finance; Paula Peinovich is president of Walden University; and the IEEE's Peter Wiesner represents the largest engineering society in the world.
