In a dramatic extension of its online graduate programs, WebCampus, the distance-education unit of Stevens Institute of Technology, will deliver three new, entirely online master's this fall. The new degrees - in computer security, telecom, and applied optics - are in addition to another online graduate degree in networking launched last year.
"WebCampus has accelerated remarkably in just three years," said Stevens Vice President Maureen Weatherall. "It now offers more than 160 online courses to over 2,500 students since it was first introduced."
Stevens' online master's in cybersecurity offers advanced study in one of the most critical concerns facing the nation today. The 10-course, instructor-led online degree helps engineers and managers respond to increasingly serious threats to industry and government computers and networks. Students learn how to react to immediate and long-range security attacks.
In another entirely online graduate degree in telecommunications, students in the 12-course program learn how to respond to the demanding requirements of the telecom industry. They acquire advanced technical knowledge of telecommunications, integrated with business management.
Recognizing that the vast array of communications and information systems today requires complex integration of sophisticated principles and practices drawn from many fields, Stevens will also launch a 10-course online degree in microelectronics and photonics this fall. It marries a thorough scientific understanding with advanced technological applications, meeting requirements for design, fabrication, integration, and applications.
"Stevens online degrees provide the same content, by the same faculty, and in the end, students earn exactly the same degrees as those who take courses on campus," added Weatherall.
Introduced just three years ago, WebCampus now serves students from 34 states and 23 countries. Located in Hoboken, N.J., Stevens is one of America's premier science and technology universities.
The Institute offers pioneering curricula with a focus on applied research, helping to solve real-world industrial and environmental problems. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education accredits Stevens. WebCampus online courses are co-sponsored by some of the world's most respected professional institutions, including IEEE, ASME, and several other premier associations representing more than 800,000 members worldwide.
