Commencement 2003

Two ceremonies at Stevens on May 22

Family, friends and graduates will fill Stevens Institute of Technology's Canavan Arena for this year's two commencement ceremonies, undergraduate at 10:30 a.m. and graduate at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 22.

More than 400 undergraduate degrees and 800 graduate degrees will be conferred. The two ceremonies take place at Canavan Arena, Schaefer Athletic Center, approximately one-half block south of 8th Street and Castle Point Terrace on Stevens' campus in Hoboken.

Undergraduate ceremony - 10:30 a.m.

The commencement address for the undergraduate ceremony will be delivered by Patricia A. Russo,  Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucent Technologies, Inc., one of the largest suppliers of communications hardware, software and services to the world's communications service providers. Ms. Russo will receive an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Stevens as part of the ceremony. (Click here for bio)

In addition, Stevens will honor the class of 2003's top student (designated First In Class - the student who earned the highest grade point average), and he will also offer brief remarks. He is Paul A. Sanzone of Goshen, N.Y., who is earning double undergraduate degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Literature, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering. (Click here for bio)

Graduate Ceremony - 6 p.m.

A highly successful Stevens alumnus and Board of Trustees member will have the privilege of speaking to one of the largest graduate classes in Stevens' history. He is Thomas A. (Tom) Corcoran, President and CEO of Gemini Air Cargo, Inc., which is owned by The Carlyle Group (TCG), a private equity firm based in Washington, D.C. In addition, he is President of his management consulting firm, Corcoran Enterprises, LLC. He will deliver the graduate commencement address and also receive an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Stevens.  (Click here for bio)
