Stevens and Defense Acquisition University join together in graduate certificate program

Systems & supportability engineering certificate is basis for Stevens master's

The Systems Design and Operational Effectiveness (SDOE) Program at Stevens Institute of Technology has joined with the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) to provide a four-course graduate certificate program in Systems and Supportability Engineering. The International Society of Logistics Engineers (SOLE) is also a collaborator in the program, which will use Stevens' SDOE expertise and curriculum to serve the educational needs of the US Department of Defense Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics (AT&L) Workforce.

"This is yet another major partnership for the fast-growing SDOE program," said Stevens president, Dr. Harold J. Raveche, who signed the Stevens-DAU agreement in October at the Pentagon. "Dr. Dinesh Verma, the SDOE director, has once again shown great skill and energy in achieving a highly constructive relationship in the defense education community."

The Systems and Supportability Engineering certificate program will be delivered at the Stevens campus in New Jersey, via the Stevens WebCampus, or at any of the DAU regional locations. The program will consist of two required courses: System Operational Effectiveness and Life Cycle Analysis; and Design for System Reliability, Maintainability, and Supportability. The remainder of the four-course program may be selected from three options: System Supportability and Logistics; System Architecture and Design; and Decision and Risk Analysis. A certificate earned in the program can form the basis of a Stevens master's degree in Systems Engineering.

"This program is a win-win-win for the DAU, for the AT&L Workforce, and for Stevens Institute of Technology," said Wayne Glass, Director for Strategic Partnerships at the DAU. Glass was directly involved in planning the Stevens-DAU partnership.

About DAU

The Defense Acquisition University (DAU) provides mandatory, assignment-specific, and continuing education courses for military and civilian acquisition personnel within the Department of Defense. Its mission is to provide the acquisition community with the right learning products and services to make smart business decisions. Authorized by 10 U.S.C. 1746 and chartered by DoD Directive 5000.57, the DAU was established on August 1, 1992.

The DAU coordinates acquisition education and training programs to meet the training requirements of more than 140,000 DoD acquisition personnel. As the DoD corporate university for acquisition education, the DAU sponsors curriculum and instructor training to provide a full range of basic, intermediate, advanced, and assignment-specific courses to support the career goals and professional development of the Acquisition Workforce.

Each DoD acquisition functional area is represented by a Functional Integrated Product Team (FIPT), comprised of senior-level acquisition officials of the DoD components and led by Functional Advisors. These teams advise the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics) (USD-AT&L) on career development issues and recommend mandatory training, education, and experience required for their respective functional areas. DAU Program Directors work in conjunction with the FIPTs to identify performance outcomes for various career levels and incorporate them into DAU courses.
