On Friday, March 15, Stevens Institute of Technology will bring together researchers and practitioners from government, academia and industry to explore problems and prospective solutions in the field of cybersecurity. The occasion will be a wide-ranging, in-depth Symposium on Cybersecurity and Trustworthy Software, organized by NJITES: The New Jersey Institute for Trustworthy Enterprise Software.

The symposium will be held in the 4th Floor Bissinger Room at Stevens' Wesley J. Howe Center, 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 15. Issues of secure data and safe computer networks have risen to the top of the nation's defense priorities in the months following 9/11. In the areas of e-commerce and homeland security, the dangers of cyberterrorism are being explored through advanced modeling and simulation at a variety of corporate and university labs across the nation. At Stevens, laboratories in secure software and secure networks are looking ahead several technology generations to find urgently needed answers to questions from partners in government and business.

Arranged with the assistance of Dr. Dominic Duggan of Stevens' Laboratory for Secure Systems, the symposium will feature a 9:30 a.m. keynote talk by Fred Schneider, a researcher at Cornell University. The topic of his talk will be "The Case for Language-Based Security." Steve Bellovin of AT&T Laboratories, who will discuss issues of network security, will keynote the afternoon session.

Others appearing on the program will be Naftaly Minsky of Rutgers University, David Walker of Princeton University and Constantine Manikopoulos of the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Appearing from Stevens' faculty will be Dr. Duggan, Dr. Susanne Wetzel, and Dr. David Naumann.
