ADVISORY: Air quality monitoring

There is obvious concern that the tragic events in lower Manhattan could affect campus air quality.  Wind direction is, of course, a major factor and will change from day to day.

The following steps have been taken:

  1. We are monitoring the state's web site (NJDEP) www.state.nj.us/dep/airmon/index.html on a daily basis.
  2. Vice President Roger Cole is in contact with the Hoboken Health Department's Officer, on a 24/7 basis, to determine local conditions.
  3. The Hudson Regional Health Commission is monitoring the air quality testing being conducted by OSHA and EPA and we will contact HRHC on a daily basis.

Current Status:

  1. Air quality for our region is "moderate."  This is a typical condition without the need for advisories.
  2. No pollutants at levels of concern have been detected in the ongoing EPA, NJDEP and HRHC monitoring.
  3. No asbestos has been detected in any Hudson County testing.
  4. Air quality, as evaluated by the continuous ambient air-monitoring network is good in the metropolitan region which includes Hudson County.

Daily condition reports and advisories, as necessary, will be found at URL www.stevens.edu/chs/announcement.html
