New Technogenesis^®TV show on cn8 explores security in a technology-driven world

Information technology now pervades our daily lives, whether we like it or not. And while it opens new doors to commerce and communications, it also can threaten our privacy, our finances and even our personal safety. Experts discuss how we can keep important information safe and secure in a high-tech world this Sunday on Technogenesis^®, a new TV program produced by Stevens Institute of Technology, in cooperation with cn8, the Comcast Network.

Featured guests include David Farber, who spent the last year as chief technologist for the Federal Communications Commission while on leave from the University of Pennsylvania, and Catherine Allen, the chief executive officer of BITS, an organization composed of executives from 20 of the nation's largest financial services companies.

The Technogenesis program, "Security in a technology-driven world," airs at 7:30 p.m. on cn8, the Comcast Network, each of the following Sundays: Feb. 4, Feb. 18, March 4 and March 18. Check local cable listings for cn8 in your area.

Farber, who is Alfred Fitler Moore Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Pennsylvania, manages research in high-speed networking. He is also associated with The Annenberg School of Communications and the Wharton School of Business. He has been involved with computers almost from their very invention, having been a hardware and language designer at Bell Laboratories and later working at the Rand Corporation and Scientific Data Systems.

Allen heads BITS, the technology group for The Financial Services Roundtable, which was created to foster the development of electronic commerce while preserving security and privacy. Allen founded the Santa Fe Group, a research and consulting firm specializing in emerging technologies, and she previously worked for Citicorp in areas of electronic banking. She is consulted regularly by business and quoted often by the media as an authority on e-commerce and smart cards.

Co-produced by Stevens and Comcast, the half-hour Technogenesis programs feature government, research and industry leaders discussing some of the most challenging real-world issues facing science and technology today.

Hosted by veteran TV journalist Steve Taylor, each program includes two or more special guests from the areas of science, technology, government, education, business or industry. This program also features Jerry MacArthur Hultin, dean of the Wesley J. Howe School of Technology Management at Stevens Institute of Technology and former Under Secretary of the Navy.

The Comcast Network is one of the nation's largest regional cable networks reaching close to 4 million households in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.
