Stevens’ online engineering programs ranked #2 by US News & World Report

National recognition of award-winning WebCampus programs

HOBOKEN, N.J. — Stevens Institute of Technology leads nearly every other online graduate engineering program in the country when it comes to online programs, according to a recent survey.

US News and World Report surveyed more than 400 schools and compiled a list of graduate-level programs in business, education, engineering, library science, nursing and public health. The survey highlights key attributes of the learning experience.

Stevens was ranked number two in the group that includes Columbia University, Georgia Institute of Technology and Virginia Tech among others.

Launched in 2000, Stevens’ WebCampus quickly became one of the nations’ top-quality online academic programs, with a tremendous commitment in the development and use of best-practices in online learning.

Since its inception, students from 40 states and 40 countries have taken Stevens classes through WebCampus. The program has been recognized with a number of awards and honors, giving it an enviable reputation as a leader in online education.

Among the awards received by the program were the US Distance Learning Association’s 21st Century Award for Best Practices. The program was a recipient of the award in both 2005 and 2008.

“In this environment, changing technologies will continue to pose challenges for all schools with online programs,” said Robert Zotti, Director of the WebCampus Division. “We deal with this challenge by focusing on the tools and techniques that we think will provide the biggest benefits.

“We were an early adopter of web-conferencing technology, and instructional activities that have been built around it including real-time and recorded instructor lectures, student presentations, team assignments, and even online office hours have been a huge success.”

The program currently offers 154 engineering and computer science courses in its online catalog. This fall, the program had its largest semester ever, recording just below 2,000 enrollments.
