Stevens and INCOSE sign academic agreement for certifications

Agreement will streamline how graduate students and alumni can obtain certain INCOSE certifications

HOBOKEN, N.J. ― Stevens Institute of Technology and the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), the leading systems engineering professional society, have signed an agreement that will streamline how Stevens graduate students and alumni can obtain INCOSE's Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) and Associate Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP) certifications. Through the terms of the agreement, Stevens and INCOSE will collaborate to encourage and enable the certification of Stevens' qualified graduate students and alumni who are interested in pursuing certification as part of their academic and professional goals.

The program is open to Stevens' graduate students and alumni who have satisfactorily completed for academic credit the four core Systems Engineering courses:

· SYS/SDOE 625: Fundamentals of Systems Engineering

· SYS/SDOE 650: System Architecture and Design

· EM/SDOE 612: Project Management of Complex Systems

· SYS/SDOE 605: Systems Integration

Qualified applicants must satisfactorily complete a free one-day Stevens boot camp to prepare them for the application process, send a completed application to INCOSE, and pay the INCOSE testing fee.

Stevens will pay the CSEP and/or ASEP application fee for current Stevens graduate students, and will provide a discounted application fee for Stevens alumni.

The boot camp will be offered in March, July and October. The first boot camp will occur on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 on-campus at Stevens in Hoboken , N.J. Interested candidates may also participate remotely via Webex. The boot camp will cover how to successfully complete the certification application, cross-walk Stevens' core course content to the INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook that is the basis of the certification exam, and offer guidance on how to prepare for the exam.

Qualified students and alumni may register for the Stevens boot camp, by completing the steps outlined on the Stevens/INCOSE CSEP webpage at www.stevens. edu /CSEP.

The certification agreement articulates Stevens’ and INCOSE's commitment to upholding a high quality standard for the INCOSE certification program. The agreement was signed at the annual INCOSE International Workshop, a working meeting of global systems engineering leaders, held in San Francisco in January 2009.

"This opportunity enables Stevens to further its leadership role in supporting and promoting the discipline of systems engineering by becoming the first university to enter a certification agreement with INCOSE,” said Dr. Michael Pennotti, Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the School of Systems & Enterprises (SSE) at Stevens. “This agreement will provide tangible benefits to our students, our alumni, and the broader systems engineering community.”

"INCOSE is pleased to enter this agreement with Stevens to advance the practice of systems engineering and to strengthen our certification program in academia,” said Pat Hale, president of INCOSE. “This agreement will support maintaining INCOSE's Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) designation as the worldwide standard for systems engineering certification.”

INCOSE is a not-for-profit professional organization with a strong basis in the United States , but serving about 7000 members in over 22 countries worldwide. INCOSE's mission is to advance the state of the art and practice of systems engineering in industry, academia, and government by promoting interdisciplinary, scaleable approaches to produce appropriate solutions that meet societal needs.

Utilizing an open academic model, the School of Systems and Enterprises emphasizes global partnerships in Systems and Enterprises related research and edu cation with industry and government.
