Dr. Thomas Wakeman wins PIANC USA Fellows award

Wakeman serves as Deputy Director of Stevens’ Center for Maritime Systems

HOBOKEN , N.J. – Last month Dr. Thomas H. Wakeman III, Deputy Director of the Center for Maritime Systems/ Davidson Laboratory at Stevens Institute of Technology, was awarded the PIANC USA Fellows award.

PIANC is a worldwide non-political and non-profit technical and scientific organization established to promote both inland and maritime navigation by fostering progress in the planning, design, construction, improvement, maintenance and operation of inland and maritime waterways and ports and of coastal areas for general use.

“With the world economic recession, the economic contributions of international maritime trade and transportation are more important than ever,” said Wakeman. “Without marine shipping, we would not only suffer continued economic decline but also energy, resources, and manufactured goods shortages.”

Last Year, Dr. Wakeman was given the groups highest honor, inclusion into the inaugural PIANC USA Fellow Program.

Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works John Woodley presented Wakeman with the PIANC Fellows award at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn during a ceremony on April 17.

“I appreciate the opportunities that PIANC has provided me to serve in this industry, and the recognition bestowed by the Fellows award,” said Wakeman.
