Broadside Electric, currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, researches
material from a wide range of countries and traditions. The recording groups music
has been described as an inspired modern sound with distinctly traditional roots.
The quintet features Joe DAndrea (drums, percussion, vocals), Amy Ksir (flute, tin whistles, oboe, vocals), Tom Rhoads (vocals, guitars, cittern, dulcimer), Jim Speer (Chapman Stick®, bass guitar, recorders, crumhorn) and Helene Zisook (violins, violas, mandolins, vocals).
For percussionist Joe DAndrea, performing at DeBaun bears extra significance. Stevens is his alma mater (class of 1990), and he performed often at DeBaun as a student.
"In DeBaun, Stevens offers an ideal antidote to day-to-day college life," he says. "Opportunities abound in music, acting, directing and everything in-between. My experiences on stage, in the orchestra pit and behind the scenes at DeBaun continue to play a valuable role."
Songwriter Margo Hennebach and husband/guitarist Mark Saunders have performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the acclaimed Philadelphia Folk Festival as well as a long list of concert halls and coffeehouses throughout the country. They blend world folk, pop, rock and Celtic sensibilities into a fusion of folk. For more information on Broadside Electric, and Margo Hennebach and Mark Saunders, please go to www.stevens.edu/debaun/events.html.
