Stevens to host second annual Ethics Bowl, May 27

High school students to compete in answering questions on ethical issues posed by modern society

HOBOKEN , N.J. –Stevens Institute of Technology will host its second annual Science and Technology Ethics Bowl and Symposium for high school students. The half-day event on May 27, 2009 will be held at the Stevens campus and introduces high school juniors and seniors to careful thinking about ethical issues posed by modern society.

In advance of the competition, the participating schools will receive cases and study questions. Topics range from bio-medical ethics and animal testing to protection of privacy and corporate corruption.

During the program, teams will compete to correctly answer questions on ethical issued raised by contemporary science and technology.

“Participating in the Science and Technology Ethics Bowl helps develop students’ intellectual abilities and capacities, deepens their ethical understanding and reinforces their sense of ethical commitment,” said Michael Steinmann, Associate Professor of Philosophy and Chair of the Ethics Bowl.
