Stevens delivers strategic leadership training to Johnson & Johnson in China

New China agreement is the university’s fourth

HOBOKEN, N.J. ― In a cascade of recent agreements to deliver leadership training in China, Stevens Institute of Technology, the New Jersey-based technological and management university, announced this month that it has reached an agreement with Johnson & Johnson, the giant pharmaceutical and healthcare company, to provide its China management with a program in strategic leadership. Designed by Stevens Professor Ann Mooney, it will be delivered by the university’s faculty in Shanghai over the next two years.

“ US partnership with China in education and industry is critical for the long-term stability of the global economy,” remarked Robert Ubell, who manages Stevens' China programs. "Playing a central role in China engages faculty and students, not only for the school's strategic mission, but in the best interests of the nation.”

In a parallel move in September, Stevens entered a unique partnership with Amway to build a cadre of global leaders for the worldwide direct-selling company. Launched last month in the US and China simultaneously, instructor-led online modules are delivered over 18 months by Stevens’ faculty over WebCampus, the school’s award-winning online unit.

Stevens’ programs with Johnson & Johnson and Amway are an outgrowth of the university’s newly launched 8-module certificate program, coupled with employee assessment and coaching, from Stevens Institute for Technical Leadership (www.stevens.edu/china).

Earlier, Stevens concluded agreements with IBM China as well as China Development Bank, financial backer of the Three Gorges Dam and the Beijing Olympics, to provide bank employees with graduate degrees in project management.

Stevens’ engagement with Johnson & Johnson follows more than six years of providing education and training in China . In partnership with key Chinese universities, Stevens offers graduate degrees in management and technology in Beijing (www.stevens.edu/china).
