HOBOKEN , N.J. ― Recently, The Theater Company, in residence at The Center for the Performing Arts at DeBaun Auditorium at Stevens Institute of Technology, was added as an Associate Member of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance.
The Theater Company is in residence at and produced by The Center for the Performing Arts at DeBaun Auditorium. Originally named the DeBaun Players, the company is based in Hoboken , N.J. , and has been presenting plays since 2000. Their mission is to produce theatrical productions that are accessible to people of every age, involving a diverse group of people on stage and off. The Theater Company has amassed years of theater experience in both the professional and community realms. Their goal is to combine professionals, community members, students and children in productions so everyone can learn from each other and benefit from each other’s experiences. Last season the Theater Company presented Dreamgirls and Into the Woods. Most recent performances include Urinetown, the musical and A Christmas Carol, with upcoming performances of Seussical and Free to Be…You and Me.
The New Jersey Theatre Alliance (NJTA) is the consortium of professional, not-for-profit theatres in New Jersey and holds the unique position of being the only statewide arts service organization focused solely on professional theatre. The New Jersey Theatre Alliance's Associate Theatre Program is intended for theatres planning to become fully professional, utilizing a standard Actors' Equity Contract, within three years of membership.
The Theater Company was one of five companies to join the Alliance ’s eight other associate and 23 Equity member theaters. Says John McEwen, the Alliance ’s Executive Director, “We look forward to partnering with them as they expand their offering to their communities.”
David Zimmerman, Executive Director of The Center, remarks, “Becoming an Associate Member of the NJTA, in addition to our already exciting season, just adds incentive to our current audience and builds a new audience to see live theater at The Center.”
