HOBOKEN, N.J. ― Students from all over the world will now be able to explore how space missions are conducted–right on their computer screens – from Stevens Institute of Technology’s new Space Systems Engineering program to be launched this spring through WebCampus, the university’s award-winning online unit.
Under the direction of Stevens Professor Wiley Larson, this first-of-its-kind program explores how to manage space projects for those starting or enhancing their careers in the space industry.
“In today’s space-related enterprises, change is the only constant,” remarked Professor Larson. “From market and technological changes to policy and budgetary uncertainty, the space industry has been faced with increasing challenges, transcending technical boundaries.”
The four-course graduate certificate introduces the complex business and policy environment of space missions and covers assessment of space-mission objectives and the design of mission payloads. Students apply key space systems engineering practice in hands-on environments.
With the addition of the new space certificate and three other new online graduate programs in business and technology, WebCampus now delivers 16 master’s degrees and 37 graduate certificates online . WebCampus offers nearly 200 online graduate courses in science, technology and management. This spring, Stevens’ online courses begin the week of January 28 with more than 140 courses
A new four-course graduate program in business process management (BPM) also launches at the end of the month. Business Process Management and Service Innovation, from the university’s Stevens Howe School of Technology Management, is an outgrowth of Business Process Automation (BPR), Six Sigma, Total Quality Management (TQM) and process-supporting technologies such as workflow management, BPM suites and service-enabled systems. The program is directed by Stevens Professor Michael zur Muehlen.
WebCampus’ expansion also includes new online masters in Financial Engineering. Growing out of a four-course graduate certificate that has attracted professionals from the financial industry since it was launched four years ago, the new degree, under the direction of Stevens Professor Khaldoun Khashanah, covers economic theory and mathematical , computational, and statistical techniques in valuation, risk management, portfolio structuring, and regulation. Students exploit stochastic modeling, optimization, and simulation techniques to become expert at making pricing, hedging, trading, and portfolio-management decisions.
Rounding out Stevens’ new online offerings is yet another 4-course graduate certificate from the university’s School of Systems and Enterprises. Logistics and Supply-Chain Analysis, directed by Stevens Professor Wei Jiang, exploits quantitative tools to identify key drivers of supply-chain performance, including inventory, transportation, information and facilities.
