HOBOKEN, N.J. Stevens Institute of Technology has launched a graduate program in telecommunications management that is being delivered via interactive video to Bell Atlantic sites in four states. This latest partnership in distance learning will provide employees in Bell Atlantics engineering division the opportunity to earn advanced degrees and increase their knowledge of developments in telecommunications and systems management without leaving their workplaces.
The relationship with Bell Atlantic adds to an increasing slate of corporate partnerships developed by Stevens in the last 20 years.
Such partnerships help ensure that Stevens programs meet the real-world needs of industry professionals, according to Dr. Joseph Moeller, vice president for The Graduate School and Research Services. Stevens increasing corporate-based education programs account for approximately 50 percent of the universitys total graduate enrollment today.
"We are very pleased that Bell Atlantic, with which Stevens has had a strong relationship over many years, has chosen us to assist with this part of its ongoing employee development initiatives," said Moeller. "Stevens has a proven track record of offering quality education that is on the forefront of telecommunications industry research."
Stevens partnership with Bell Atlantic represents a significant expansion of the graduate schools distance-learning efforts, he added. The new Bell Atlantic group is one of Stevens largest groups of distance-learning students from any one company, and the university expects graduate program offerings to grow significantly to include more Bell Atlantic employees in the future.
The masters degree program in telecommunications management will be available after-hours for eligible Bell Atlantic management employees in the Chief Engineers organization at their workplaces in Baltimore, Md.; Newark, N.J.; New York City; and Marlboro, Mass. Eligible employees also may opt to take courses toward a graduate certificate in telecommunications management through Stevens. Faculty rotate their teaching sessions among the four video classrooms at the Bell Atlantic sites during the program.
Stevens and Bell Atlantic officials will celebrate their latest partnership with a special ceremony in early February. To make the celebration distinctive, students at the four distance learning sites will share in it via interactive video. Classes will commence following the event.
