Firearms & Freedom: Presented by Champions of liberty

Firearms & Freedom

Although not hosted by the Stevens Philosophy Club, I am pleased to announce the Firearms & Freedom discussion/debate, which will be hosted by another great club on campus, Champions of Liberty. Gun control is a topic that has always created some very strong feelings within people, whether they believe that guns are the root of all evil, or that they are a great method for protection. This event will surely bring forth some great arguments for both sides, as well as inform those that may not know that much about gun control. Be sure to come out to what will certainly be an excellent and informing discussion.

Obama: Got Hope? Nope.

After the great turnout of the Marijuana debate that we hosted several weeks ago, I'm very excited and pleased to announce the next debate that we will be hosting, which will take place in the Hayden Lounge on October 13th. The debate will be lead by Professor Wharton and Professor Dobbins, who are sure to entertain with a spectacle of mental prowess. There will be pizza provided by Gio's and beverages at the event, and as usual, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at dcastong@stevens.edu

Welcome to The Stevens Philosophy Club

So this is the new Stevens Philosophy Club website. After a busy and fun year at school, the summer has provided me with plenty of time to focus on other things, one of them being the Philosophy Club.

Although the website is going to be in constant development for quite a while, I'm going to get the framework up as fast as I can. Since there are many people that are familiar with the old Philosophy Club website, I've made sure that the majority of the content from the old site is being migrated over to the new one. However, I'm still very focused on completely changing the way that the Philosophy Club operates, as well as what we offer to all our members. Some of the things that I would like to bring toward the website in particular are:

- Forum: A forum for anyone from Stevens to gather and talk about philisophically related topics. I would love to make this a major part of the philosophy club, and something that hosts an extremely wide variety of discussions.

- Event organization/voting: Since we will be hosting many debates, movies, and other events throughout the year, I think it would be best that we get input from the Philosophy Club members themselves in order to decide what topics will be chosen for debates, what movies should be screened, etc. This would also be beneficial for feedback collection of past events.

- A more content-rich website: With the new website, I'd like to frequently add new content such as stories, websites, videos, etc. that are related to philosophy. The site should be something that everyone in the club can use and enjoy; by delivering content that is interesting and relavent, I'm hoping that we can reach that goal.

Stay tuned as the site gets updated and more things are added.
