The Class of 2013 Has Arrived!
After 250 students arrived early to participate in Pre-Orientation events, the entire class of 612 finally met each other and got down to the business of becoming Stevens students at Orientation. This year’s freshman class is the largest in the university’s history, coming from twenty-seven states and several foreign countries, and boasts a record number of women, which make up the 28 percent of the class.
After check-in and move-in, freshmen were given their laptop computers – specially chosen by our Information Technology department to power through the most challenging of assignments. There wasn’t much time to play with the new gadgets, however, before Orientation Leaders broke the students up into the groups they would travel with throughout the rest of Orientation. Each summer, more and more undergraduates choose to stay on campus at Stevens and participate in research projects with members of the faculty, working alongside them on projects many design themselves. H1N1 Protocol
With all the media coverage of the H1N1 virus, we want to take the opportunity to share with the families of our students the university’s plans and preparations for the upcoming flu season. We are carefully monitoring the situation and recommendations from local health officials, our campus physicians, the Center for Family Medicine, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The H1N1 vaccine is not yet available. When it becomes available, we will notify the Stevens community of the local health officials’ recommendations. Continue Story »»
Faculty Profile: Dr. George P. Korfiatis, Provost & University VP
He talks of building. He speaks of structures and pillars and foundations. He uses the word “architect” as a verb. But he isn’t an architect, or a construction manager. The structures he speaks of are made of neither mortar nor stone. He is Dr. George P. Korfiatis, the Provost and University Vice President at Stevens Institute of Technology. And his building is the Strategic Positioning Plan (SPP), developed to advance Stevens’ reputation and earn the school a place among the top national research universities. Continue Story »»
